I decided to do a project on immigration as it seemed to me, that in the run up to next years general election, that the subject of immigration is high up on the political agenda and that immigrants are being demonised in the media and seem to be the convenient scape goat to blame all the woes of the economy upon.

Immigration not only contributes to the rich cultural diversity that Britain is proud of, but also contribute to our economy by way of taxes paid and businesses and jobs created.

I feel, that the UK, plays its part on the political world stage, in terms of its foreign policies and unethical trading practices, and that these practices contribute to economic disparity around the world, which  in turn have a knock on effect, thus creating the  conditions that  lead to an increase in economic migration.

I am aware that politics of immigration are complicated, so somehow, I wanted to push the politics aside and meet the people behind the headlines.  So, with a humanistic approach in mind, I set of to Calais, to visit the migrant camps and to talk with people and to here there stories and to create a photo story of that journey.
The migrants, leave behind there families and homelands, to escape  war, or  poverty or persecution, desperate to find a better life.

I have named this project "Here we are Nowhere" because the migrants find themselves in diplomatic limbo, often, they can not return to there homelands, the odds of getting safely to the UK and gaining asylum  are stacked massively against them and staying where they are, in the squalid camps of Calais is not a sustainable solution.  The images here are from my first visit to Calais I hope to return to continue with this project.
